The short version
- We collect your first name and email address when you sign up for the checklist, and email it to you once you confirm your address.
- Signing up for the checklist adds you to our newsletter of occasional travel tips. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
- We never sell your details or give them to anyone else for their marketing.
- This website uses no advertising or tracking cookies.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time through our contact form.
1. Who we are
This website and the Long-Haul Flight Checklist are run by The Seasoned Flyer ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described here, which means we decide how it's used and are responsible for looking after it.
To contact us about anything in this policy, please use our contact form.
2. What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First name and email address | When you fill in the form to get the checklist | To confirm your address, deliver the checklist and send you the newsletter |
| Date and time you signed up and confirmed your email, and the page you signed up on | Recorded automatically with your signup | To keep a record that you agreed to join the newsletter |
| Email engagement (for example whether an email was opened or a link clicked) | When you receive our emails | To see which tips are useful and keep the list healthy |
| Your name, email address and message | When you use our contact form | To reply to you and handle your request |
| Technical data such as your IP address and browser type | When you visit the website | Processed by our hosting provider to deliver the site and protect it from abuse |
We don't ask for, and you shouldn't send us, health information through this website. The checklist offers general travel tips, not medical advice.
3. Our legal basis
- Consent for the newsletter. Before you sign up, the page tells you that signing up for the checklist adds you to the newsletter, and you confirm your address by clicking a link in our first email. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any email or by contacting us. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew.
- Legitimate interests for replying to messages you send us, keeping signup records, and keeping the website secure.
4. Who we share it with
We only share your data with the services we need to run this website and newsletter. They process it on our behalf, under contracts that require them to keep it secure and use it only to provide their service to us.
- Kit (kit.com), our email service provider. It stores the newsletter list and sends our emails.
- Cloudflare (cloudflare.com), which hosts this website.
- Our contact form provider, which delivers messages sent through the contact form to us.
Some of these providers are based in, or use servers in, the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area, it's protected by recognised safeguards such as the UK and EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a "do not email" list, so you aren't added again by mistake, unless you ask us to delete it completely.
- Contact form messages: for up to 12 months after your request is resolved.
- Hosting logs: kept by Cloudflare for a short period under its own retention rules.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This website doesn't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we don't show ads.
This website doesn't store anything in your browser, so there's nothing to clear.
Our fonts are hosted on this website, so visiting it doesn't send your details to font services such as Google Fonts. Our emails may contain small tracking pixels and tracked links, which Kit uses to report opens and clicks.
7. Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct data that's wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your data
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data
- ask for your data in a portable format
- withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time
To use any of these rights, send us a message through our contact form and choose "Privacy request". We'll reply within one month. It's free, though we may need to confirm your identity first.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority in the country where you live. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
8. Children
This website and newsletter are intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has signed up, please contact us and we'll delete their details.
9. Security
The website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we use reputable providers with strong security practices. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a video or change providers. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a significant change, we'll tell newsletter subscribers by email.
